Hopantenic acid for stuttering

Interestingly enough, some of our subscribers noted a slight stimulating effect. The effectiveness against stuttering is low, but cases of temporary improvement in speech have been reliably noted in adults and children. There have also been cases of worsening stuttering, although the drug is actively prescribed by many doctors.

Really lasting results were noted only with an integrated approach, especially in children, when, in addition to pharmacotherapy, speech or psychological practice was used. As with all drugs, it is very important to choose the correct dose individually. If the dosage is chosen incorrectly, stuttering may worsen, and if it falls within the required limits, a noticeable improvement in speech may be observed. Most often, when self-medicating stuttering with hopantenic acid preparations, the dosage is selected incorrectly, hence many reviews about the lack of effect or deterioration of speech - so always select the required dosage together with your doctor.

Tell your doctor about any side effects or deterioration in speech caused by the use of hopantenic acid preparations. If changing the dosage still does not produce results, the drug should be discontinued. There are often cases when, due to individual characteristics, the drug simply may not be suitable, then reducing stuttering against its background is out of the question.

  • The dosage is selected individually
  • The daily dose for adults is from 2 grams, the course of using Pantogam usually takes about a month, and immediately stop taking the drug if you do not notice any improvement after a few days.
  • For children, the daily dosage is from 0.5 grams, in the same course.

For stuttering, combinations of Hopantenic acid with neurotropic vitamins and Phenibut are often prescribed, which in some cases gives more noticeable results.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The effect of the drug is due to the presence of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) in its structure. GABA directly influences the specific GABAB receptor-channel complex. Pantogam active contains a racemic mixture of the R-form of hopantenic acid and the S-isomer of hopantenic acid (in equal quantities). Due to the presence of the isomer in the drug, transport and interaction with the GABA receptor is improved. The anticonvulsant and nootropic effect of Pantogam active is more pronounced than that of the first generation hopanthenic drugs.

The drug stimulates anabolic processes in neurons, increases the brain's resistance to toxic influences and hypoxia, and combines a moderate sedative effect with a mild stimulating effect. Shows mild anti-anxiety and anti-asthenic activity; regulates the patient’s behavior and reduces motor excitability; activates performance and mental abilities; inhibits bladder overactivity.

Pharmacokinetics

D,L-Hopantenic acid is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It passes through the blood-brain barrier. It is not metabolized and is excreted within 48 hours in unchanged form (about 30% in feces and about 70% in urine).

Complex of opinions

According to doctors, Pantogam is effective in treating children under 10 years of age. This is too weak a remedy for adults.

In children, improvement occurs within a week. The effect of the drug is mild, it does not overstimulate the child. It is distinguished by a convenient release form, safety, and affordable price. The downside is the possibility of an allergic reaction and skin rashes.

There are many reviews online from parents of children who were treated with this drug. Many mothers did not understand the reasons for prescribing this medicine and did not undergo treatment.

Some note that after the start of therapy, disturbances occurred in the gastrointestinal tract, and increased excitability was observed in the child. But there are still many more positive reviews about Pantogam; the drug helped cure stuttering, the consequences of a head injury, the condition of newborns significantly improved, and other positive results were noted.

Adult patients report significant improvements in chronic fatigue, insomnia and stress.

Based on the advice of patients, the drug should not be used for preventive purposes; therapy should be prescribed by a doctor according to indications. This is due to the possible manifestation of allergic symptoms, which can harm the patient’s health.

PANTOGAM ACTIVE (capsules)

istonia.
And even though everyone now says that such a diagnosis does not exist, I know very well how all its symptoms manifest themselves. I have low blood pressure, I don’t tolerate autumn-winter very well, I often feel cold, even when I’m in a warm room. And during this period I feel constant apathy and fatigue. In general, “Pantogam” is prescribed for a number of diseases, ranging from neurotic disorders to schizophrenia (in complex therapy). This drug is also prescribed for severe psycho-emotional overload and decreased performance, to improve memory.

Initially, the doctor prescribed me a dosage of 250 mg, take one tablet a day. I did that, but there was practically no effect. I started taking two at a time and couldn’t sleep; this dose disrupted my sleep and caused a rapid heartbeat. This time I was wiser, I bought not just “Pantogam”, but “Pantogam Active” in a dosage of 300 mg. It turned out to be more suitable for me, although I still had mild insomnia for the first three days. This is the only side effect, plus mild tinnitus, there were no other side effects, and even this one turned out to be short-lived. The drug is available with a prescription, but I freely bought it anyway. There are 60 tablets in a box, the price is 570 rubles. Expiration date: until 2020.

The main component of Pantogam is hopatenic acid. It is thanks to it that the nootropic effect of the drug appears, coupled with a slight stimulating effect. The capsules are white, covered with a gelatin shell, and are easy to swallow. The drug must be taken in the first half of the day, otherwise you may simply not fall asleep, although be prepared for the fact that sleep may still be disrupted for several days, even if you take Pantogam in the morning. By the way, then you start to sleep better. I take one capsule a day, so one box will last me two months.

The action of “Pantogam” begins in about one and a half to two weeks. Although it varies from person to person, everyone’s body is different. But after a week or two, you will definitely feel that your concentration has increased, you have begun to delve into any issue faster and think better. It becomes easier to get up in the morning, there is no tinnitus after waking up. But for performance to really increase, you need to wait three or four weeks. Because even though I don’t get tired as usual, I still can’t easily cope with a full day of work and not feel tired in the evening. Efficiency increases gradually, but the quality of life becomes completely different.

Of course, I recommend the drug, but I think that you should not self-medicate and still consult a doctor so that he can prescribe what you need. The drug helped me, I will continue to take it from time to time.

Pantogam - side effects

Pantogam tablets, syrup and capsules may cause the following side effects:

  • drowsiness;
  • sleep disorders;
  • noise in the head;
  • allergy manifestations (skin rash, runny nose, conjunctivitis).

The drug is often well tolerated due to its low degree of toxicity, and undesirable neurological symptoms can be observed only at the beginning of the course of treatment. Therefore, in the first days of taking the drug, it is recommended to refrain from driving a car and work related to operating other mechanisms. Undesirable effects, consisting of increased symptoms of the existing disease for which Pantogam is prescribed, can be observed if the drug is taken incorrectly. If allergic reactions develop, the medication should be discontinued.

The drug Pantogam is used primarily for the treatment of pathological conditions in the nervous system of various origins. The release of the drug in the form of syrup is intended for the treatment of young patients who, unfortunately, are also not immune from such pathologies. The drug has been used in medicine for quite a long time and has managed to earn a reputation as an effective and relatively safe drug.
