How do memories in hypnosis help get rid of fears and psychosomatics?

Fear has a negative impact on all aspects of a person’s life, especially personal relationships. Getting rid of fears and anxieties means improving your life in all areas and leading an almost carefree existence. We are, of course, talking about those conditions that prevent a person from living, working, and building relationships. One of the proven and effective psychotherapeutic techniques is the treatment of fear with hypnosis.

The principle of operation of the technology

Hypnotherapy is usually seen as an aid to certain forms of psychotherapy (counseling), rather than in itself. It is sometimes helpful in psychotherapy because the hypnotic state allows people to explore painful thoughts, feelings and memories that they have hidden from their conscious minds. In addition, the trance state allows people to perceive certain things differently, such as blocking the awareness of pain.

Hypnosis is used in two ways, as suggestion therapy or by psychoanalyzing the patient.

  • Suggested Treatment: A hypnotic state allows a person to respond better to judgment. Therefore, hypnosis helps some people change certain behaviors, such as stopping smoking or drinking. It also assists individuals in transforming perception and sensation and is particularly useful in treating certain types of pain.
  • Analysis. This approach uses a relaxed state to explore possible unconscious factors that may be associated with psychological conflict, such as a traumatic past that the person has hidden in their unconscious memory. Once a mental wound is identified, it can be addressed through professional counseling. However, hypnosis is not currently considered a "core" part of psychoanalytic treatment.

The effectiveness of hypnosis treatment for phobias

The positive effects of hypnotic influence in the treatment of fears and phobias include:

  • After the first sessions, the person feels better physically and more relaxed.
  • The patient experiences an emotional upsurge, the belief that achieving the goal is real, and in the near future.
  • There is an increase in self-esteem, improvement in relationships with loved ones, colleagues, and friends.
  • There is an awareness of the causes and mechanisms of fears, this leads to the fact that a person concentrates less on them and changes his attitude to neutral or positive.
  • The patient learns to control emotions, heartbeat, movements in difficult and stressful situations, that is, control his fear.

In any case, before treating phobias with hypnosis, it is necessary to consult with a specialist and undergo preliminary examinations so that subsequent treatment is truly effective. A combination of treatment methods is also possible.

Advantages

The hypnotic state allows a person to be more open to discussion and suggestion. It can improve the success of other treatments in many conditions, including:

  • Phobias, fears and anxiety
  • Some sleep disorders
  • Voltage
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Grief and loss
  • Irritable bowel syndrome

It can also be used to treat pain and overcome habits such as smoking or overeating. It is also useful for people whose symptoms are severe or need crisis management.

Flaws

Hypnotherapy is not suitable for a person who has psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions, or for those who use drugs or alcohol. It should be used to control some forms of pain only after a health care professional has assessed the person for any physical disorder that may require medical or surgical treatment.

Hypnosis is also not considered a standard or primary treatment for major mental disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or severe personality disorders. It is not a replacement for more established forms of psychotherapy or medication used for these types of conditions.

Some doctors use hypnosis to restore possible repressed memories, which, in their opinion, are associated with a person’s psychological problems. However, hypnosis also poses the risk of creating false memories, usually as a result of unintentional judgments made by the therapist. For this reason, the use of hypnosis for certain mental disorders, such as dissociative disorders, remains controversial.

How do memories in hypnosis help get rid of fears and psychosomatics?

Cognitive hypnotherapy (hypnoanalysis) is a new psychotherapeutic method based on psychoanalysis and combining regression therapy techniques, which can significantly increase the efficiency of searching for repressed traumas and memories.

There are a large number of directions that consider trauma as the cause of mental disorder, however, the creator of cognitive hypnoanalysis, Gennady Ivanov, offers his own approach to this problem.

According to the author of the method, neurosis is not based on a single traumatic situation, but on a group of interconnected painful events. Such a group arises as a result of the association of elements of traumatic situations in different periods of life. Such associated elements ultimately form a separate subpersonality in the individual’s psyche.

As a result, traumatic episodes appear as a combination of individual emotional experiences and various mental attitudes, such as “Shut up and don’t you dare cry”, “Decent girls don’t behave like that”, etc. And, as a result, while a person is absorbed in his trauma, he cannot escape to get out and rationally evaluate what is happening in his head - without the help of a therapist this is almost impossible to do.

That is why, in order to expose and understand the problem, the therapist must first confront the client with it, for example, in the form of indirect references (films, music reminiscent of the problem) or a direct meeting with a frightening situation (approach and meet a girl ( social phobia), riding in an elevator (claustrophobia)).

True, in the case of some requests, it is extremely difficult to recreate the problematic stimulus in a real situation and then the main emphasis is on the client’s memories. Memories, in turn, are caused by emotion; it is this emotion that serves as a bridge for us to the subconscious, and as soon as the emotion can be evoked, therapy can begin.

The main goal of therapy is to re-experience a repressed traumatic event, followed by its assimilation and rethinking. As a result, a person gains a new sensory experience and gets out of a situation that once seemed like a nightmare in a new way.

So, for example, if it is not possible to obtain an emotion through direct methods, then we can attract the client’s imagination so that he gets used to his problem, and then depicts it in symbolic form. Getting used to the image further allows the client to realize the tension, and transform this image into something new, which will lead to a transformation of the client’s feelings and thinking.

Russian psychotherapist Nikolai Linde called this transformation a return on emotional investment. People constantly receive such investments in real life, but are not always able to return them. As a result, these investments accumulate in the body in the form of emotional charges that generate constant tension and anxiety. Charges are associated and fixed as elements of psychotrauma, which begins to function in isolation from consciousness.

From here it is necessary to uncover the depths of the client’s memory and find situations that give rise to problematic experiences. And if in ordinary life we tend to discharge our accumulated energy, then in case of injury we become fixated on the situation, and the energy begins to seethe inside without the possibility of exiting. The main goal of hypnotherapy is to release this energy and free the individual from emotional shackles.

If we encounter a difficulty, then it is necessary to resort to regression therapy in order to search for earlier traumatic experiences. However, sometimes what comes to light is not just memories, but rather tragic scenarios and dramatic images that our brain generates.

Thus, regression serves as a mechanism for revealing the etiology - the history and causes of the disease. And in this case, the hypnotherapist finds himself in the hands of a decipherer of the code in which the problem is written, which allows him to contact the traumatized subpersonality, which causes the symptom. And only in this case is true healing of the patient possible, while in all other situations only the symptom is relieved.

But how do we find ourselves in the world of such subpersonalities? The point here is the connection between the psyche and the body. And as soon as we achieve such a connection and cause a problematic experience, we gain access to the problematic state and to editing the experience.

As a result, deep hypnosis allows you to rethink past traumas and integrate disparate pieces into a single personality.

Danger

Hypnotherapy is not a scary procedure. This is not mental control or brainwashing. A doctor cannot force a person to do anything that is awkward or that the person does not want to do. The greatest risk, as discussed above, is that false memories may be created. It is also not a recognized standard alternative to other established treatments for major mental disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depression.

Treatment of fears, phobias and anxiety with hypnosis

Treatment of anxiety disorders is always a long and complex process. While not diseases in the full sense of the word, fears, phobias and anxiety can greatly poison a patient’s life, and panic attacks can even send him to cardiology or the intensive care unit.

For drug treatment

anxiety disorders use tranquilizers, beta blockers, anxiolytics, antidepressants and much more. The drugs are changed, combined, used in long courses, but they do not help everyone, and when you stop taking the pills, the problems return.

Approximately the same picture is observed when using traditional psychotherapy.

. To treat phobias and anxiety, rational, cognitive, analytical and behavioral psychotherapy, as well as various combinations thereof, are used. With this approach, the emphasis is on teaching the patient to consciously control the manifestation of panic and anxiety.

Since anxiety disorders are based on a deep imbalance of the entire nervous system, including the part of it that is not under conscious control, the recovery process can be very long.

Hypnosis treatment

fundamentally different from the approaches described above. Hypnotherapy is, first of all, working with the emotional component of the human psyche. It is problems in this area that play a leading role in the development of anxiety disorders.

By working with a patient in a trance state, the hypnotherapist is able to correct emotional disturbances directly. This greatly increases the effectiveness of the impact compared to conventional psychotherapeutic techniques, where the doctor’s attitudes are passed through a critical perception of the patient’s consciousness.

Treatment of anxiety with hypnosis is aimed not only at combating the symptoms of anxiety disorders, but also at eliminating the cause of their occurrence - an imbalance in the nervous system.

Occurring as a result of overwork, chronic stress or psychological trauma, this imbalance leads to the development of certain anxiety disorders.

The treatment process in our clinic is a combination of therapy and education.

By getting rid of the symptoms of anxiety and phobias, the patient begins to control his feelings, thoughts, symptoms and even physiological reactions.

At the same time, the emotional sphere is also put in order. The patient is taught to achieve relaxation, maintain mental balance, and constantly feel a sense of joy.

All of these are powerful factors in the fight against anxiety. Gradually, the patient discovers that although anxiety and panic attacks do occur, they occur less and less often and become weaker and weaker. In most cases, he copes with them without resorting to medications, and sometimes he simply does not pay attention to them. In the end, the person completely gets rid of the symptoms that tormented him.

Of course, treating anxiety and fears with hypnosis is a labor-intensive process. It requires painstaking and persistent work from both the doctor and the patient. What can you do, health cannot be bought, it can only be earned. However, the results of such work fully pay for themselves.

Patients not only get rid of fears, anxieties, panic attacks and everything else that poisoned their lives, but also receive a wonderful feeling of peace of mind, comfort and the ability to enjoy life.
